The client is seeking a Senior SEN Officer to join their Preparing for Adulthood (PFA) Team on an interim basis with a London-based Local Authority. The role involves supporting and coordinating casework to ensure statutory compliance and effective services for young people transitioning into adulthood. Responsibilities include liaising with families, professionals, and educational institutions to assess needs, amend EHCPs, and provide appropriate support in line with panel decisions. The Senior SEN Officer will also provide strategic support to the Team Manager and oversee a team of case officers.
Key responsibilities for the Senior SEN Officer include supporting and coordinating casework, attending Annual Reviews and school meetings for children and young people, and liaising with professionals to assess needs and ensure appropriate placement and support for pupils with SEND. The role also involves amending EHCPs in accordance with panel decisions, leading a team of case officers to ensure timely and quality outcomes, and promoting the welfare of children accessing services or looked after by the Local Authority. Essential skills and experience include PfA/Post-16 experience, the ability to work in the office at least 1-2 days per week, and proven experience as a Senior SEND Officer within a local authority setting.
The ideal candidate for this role will have prior experience in a PfA/Post-16 team, be able to work in the office at least 1-2 days per week, and demonstrate strong leadership skills as a Senior Officer who requires minimal supervision.
