Opportunity Details

The client is seeking a Regulation Counsel to join their Custodianship Department in Calgary, Canada. The Counsel will work to support the Law Society in maintaining trust and accountability within the legal system. Responsibilities include providing legal advice on custodianship issues, managing custodianship files, overseeing the collection of custodianship costs, and ensuring compliance with trust safety rules. The ideal candidate will have strong communication, judgment, analytical, and organizational skills, as well as knowledge of the Legal Profession Act and trust accounting practices.
The Regulation Counsel will work closely with the Senior Manager, Regulation and the Supervisor, Custodianship to address legal issues, attend court hearings, and provide support to appointed Custodians. They will also be responsible for drafting legal documents, managing litigation steps, and providing advice on file requests and destruction. Additionally, the Counsel will collaborate with the Trust Safety department to ensure regulatory compliance with trust safety rules and processes. Success in this position requires a strong understanding of the Legal Profession Act and the Rules of the Law Society. The Regulation Counsel must be able to work independently or under supervision as needed, adapting to changing work assignments and organizational requirements.
