The Division Director, State Advocacy at the client is responsible for leading and managing activities and programs related to state-level advocacy for the veterinary profession. Reporting to the Chief Advocacy Officer, this role involves serving as the primary liaison to veterinary medical associations in US states and territories, overseeing programs, and providing recommendations on policies that support effective state-level advocacy efforts. The Director will lead a team in educating state legislators and regulators on the impact of proposed policies on veterinarians, their patients, and clients.
Responsibilities of the Division Director include participating in the development and execution of the client's policies and programs related to state advocacy, providing strategic vision and leadership for state advocacy efforts, and collaborating with state veterinary medical associations to support their advocacy initiatives. The Director will work closely with volunteer and staff leadership to develop a state-level advocacy agenda, monitor legislation and regulations at the state level, and build relationships with key allies to advance public policy goals. Additionally, the Director will oversee symposia and workshops to support state veterinary medical associations in their advocacy efforts.
The Division Director will work collaboratively with other divisions within the client to ensure alignment of state and federal legislative priorities and strategy. They will provide staff support to assigned governance entities, oversee and support activities impacting state advocacy and policy, and communicate regularly with the Chief Advocacy Officer on relevant agendas, discussions, and activities. The ideal candidate for this role will have strong project management skills, the ability to build relationships and networks, and a commitment to advancing the interests of the veterinary profession at the state level.
