Opportunity Details

The Director of SciLine at our client is responsible for overseeing the strategic direction and daily operations of the program, which aims to connect journalists with scientist sources and validated evidence to incorporate more science into news stories. The Director will have the opportunity to innovate and utilize new tools to ensure the continued effectiveness of SciLine in today's rapidly changing media landscape. The position involves managing a team of 14 staff members, including former journalists, scientists specializing in science communication, and technical and operational support personnel, to fulfill SciLine's mission of promoting evidence-informed decision-making through the media.

SciLine offers various free services for reporters and scientists, such as Expert Matching, Experts on Camera, Media Briefings, and training sessions to help journalists report on scientific topics and scientists effectively engage with the media. The Director will work closely with senior AAAS leadership and the philanthropy team to ensure the program's integration with the organization's mission and long-term fiscal sustainability. A key focus of SciLine is to diversify the voices and backgrounds of scientists represented in the news and support reporters serving underrepresented populations. The ideal candidate for this role will have a strong background in science communication, experience in managing teams, and a passion for advancing science for the benefit of society.
