Our client is seeking an Associate Director for Curatorial Affairs to oversee the development, direction, and management of the museum's curatorial, research, and scholarship activities. The ideal candidate will have a passion for the museum's mission, a commitment to public engagement, and a deep appreciation for history and scholarship. Strategic leadership and management acumen are essential, with a minimum of five to seven years of management experience in a related field. The successful candidate will have a sophisticated understanding of art, history, and culture, along with experience in project management, exhibitions, and scholarly publications.
The Associate Director will be responsible for building and leading diverse teams, setting clear priorities, and fostering a culture of scholarship, collaboration, and teamwork. Strong communication skills, relationship-building abilities, and cross-cultural competency are key attributes for this role. The ideal candidate will have an advanced degree in a related field and familiarity with museum best practices. The salary range for this position is $170,000 - $185,000, with a comprehensive benefits package provided by the Smithsonian Institution. Washington, DC-area residency is required, and the position consists of a hybrid in-office and remote work schedule.
