LISBON, December 27, 2012 – Boyden, a global leader in executive search, today released its latest issue of the Boyden Leadership Series featuring an in-depth interview with António Mexia, CEO of EDP- Energias de Portugal, SA. EDP is one of the largest energy operators of the Iberian Peninsula, the largest Portuguese industrial group, and the third largest global producer of wind energy.

Mr Mexia discusses energy demand and opportunities in developing markets, partnerships in China and Brazil, lower cost of renewables, energising teams and why great talent overrides a bad crisis.

“Mr Mexia’s distinguished career in business, finance, government and academia provides an ideal mix to lead a global company such as EDP that impacts multiple geographies and customer bases,” said Trina Gordon, President and CEO of Boyden World Corporation.

“Mr Mexia’s vision of a cleaner energy world is clearly demonstrated in EDP’s leadership in renewable energy production and sustainable business practices,” added Fernando Neves de Almeida, Managing Director of Boyden Portugal. “ His approach to motivating and growing talent to achieve this shared global vision demonstrates valuable lessons for all leaders today.”

Mr Mexia has been the Chief Executive Officer of EDP and Chairman of the Company’s Board since March 2006. Prior to joining EDP, he held several important positions in the energy sector in Portugal and also as a member of the Portuguese government. He has also served as the Board Chairman of Petrogal, Gás de Portugal, Transgás and Transgás-Atlântico.

Mr Mexia was a Director in charge of the equity capital markets and project finance divisions of Banco Espírito Santo de Investimentos from 1990 to 1998. Prior to his career in finance, he was an Assistant to Portugal’s Secretary of State for Foreign Trade and also served as Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors of ICEP (the Portuguese Institute for Foreign Trade).

Mr Mexia has held several leadership roles in industry and trade associations in Portugal. He was also a Government representative to the EU working group for the trans-European network development. In January 2008 he was appointed as member of the General and Supervisory Board of Banco Comercial Português, SA, having been previously a member of the Superior Board of this bank.

Mr Mexia received a degree in Economics from Université de Genève (Switzerland), where he was also Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Economics.
