The client is seeking a Senior Director, Engineering to oversee a growing global eCommerce engineering team of 20+ professionals. This is a highly visible leadership role with direct reporting to the executive team and close partnership with C-suite leaders. The position will set and drive engineering strategy for global eCommerce platforms, with a focus on modernizing legacy systems and advancing toward AI-enabled solutions.
Key responsibilities include leading architecture and technical direction for eCommerce, with ownership of checkout, billing, subscriptions, payments, and third-party payment integrations at global scale. The role also supports cloud and database modernization, including planning for migrations involving cloud infrastructure and OracleDB. The Senior Director will provide hands-on architectural guidance, promote AI adoption, and elevate engineering capabilities through technical reviews, coaching, and shared engineering practices.
The ideal candidate will have strong experience leading large-scale eCommerce and payments-related platforms, driving legacy-to-modern transformation, and influencing technical direction across global teams. Required qualifications include a Bachelors degree in Computer Science or a related field, along with strong Java backend and system architecture experience. Experience is expected across cloud environments (with Azure required), as well as background in consumer platforms and engineering leadership; preferred experience may include subscription billing, AI-driven modernization, OracleDB migration efforts, and cybersecurity or fintech-adjacent domains.
