Description

The client is seeking a Senior Director, Licensing & Accounts Engineering to lead the modernization of mission-critical licensing and accounts platforms that support complex global product ecosystems. This highly influential leadership role will focus on backend modernization, architectural simplification, and scalable platform design across multiple products and interfaces. The Senior Director will define the long-term technical roadmap for reusable licensing services, drive reductions in system complexity across tightly coupled platforms, and guide modernization for critical Java-based backend systems.

Key responsibilities include owning the architecture and modernization strategy for licensing and accounts systems, leading the transformation of 7+ critical Java backend components, and simplifying integrations across products, frontend systems, and legal/commercial constraints. The role also involves designing scalable and reusable licensing frameworks that support multiple products and interfaces, setting and executing the technical roadmap for licensing and accounts platforms, and partnering with Product Management and Architects to drive strategy and execution. The Senior Director will provide deep backend expertise, guide design decisions to reduce coupling and improve platform reuse, and ensure systems are resilient, scalable, and future-ready.

The client expects the Senior Director to lead and scale a highly critical engineering organization of 20–25+ engineers, mentor senior engineers and technical leaders, and drive alignment across shared services and cross-functional teams. Day-to-day focus is expected to include significant architecture and system design leadership, roadmap ownership and collaboration, and people leadership and mentoring. In the first 6–12 months, the role will be expected to define and execute the modernization roadmap, reduce system complexity and redundant touchpoints, establish scalable licensing models across multiple products, improve integration patterns and backend service design, and elevate technical maturity and engineering standards. The ideal candidate will have 10+ years of experience in senior engineering leadership roles, strong system architecture and platform transformation experience, a proven record of leading and influencing large technical teams, and deep backend integration design experience; a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field is required, with advanced study a plus. Preferred experience includes licensing and entitlement platform knowledge, building reusable entitlement frameworks, and cloud modernization exposure, along with familiarity with regulated or legally constrained systems.
