Description

The Director of Internal Audit (DIA) is a key leader within the Internal Audit Department, reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer in the Division of Finance and Administration. Responsible for overseeing all aspects of internal audit functions, the DIA ensures compliance with professional standards, regulatory requirements, and organizational policies. This includes managing financial compliance, risk assessment, audit planning, execution, reporting, and follow-up for all entities within the organization, including USA Health. The DIA also collaborates with university leadership and stakeholders to align audit priorities with organizational goals, coordinates external audit assistance work, and maintains ethical standards in all internal audit activities.

The University of South Alabama, located in Mobile, Alabama, is a dynamic community of leaders and learners with over 14,000 students and more than 115 academic programs. USA Health, part of the university network, provides excellence in education, research, and medical care, serving as a major referral center for the region. The ideal candidate for the DIA position will have a Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field, progressive experience in internal audit, and relevant certifications such as CIA, CHIAP, or CPA. Strong leadership, communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills are essential, along with proficiency in MS Office suite. Preferred qualifications include experience in healthcare or higher education, data analytics, and audit software knowledge.
