Description

The Managing Counsel for Health Affairs, Privacy & Data Protection at the client will be responsible for providing legal advice to UC Health, which includes six academic health centers, 20 health professional schools, a Global Health Institute, and systemwide services. Reporting to the Deputy General Counsel and Systemwide Chief Health Counsel, this role will involve supervising attorneys and staff supporting healthcare, research, and technology operations throughout the UC system. The Managing Counsel will advise on a wide range of health law, privacy, and data protection matters affecting the University's academic medical centers, health sciences schools, and other clinical, research, and education operations.

Specific responsibilities of the Managing Counsel will include providing legal advice on health care reimbursement, regulatory issues, complex healthcare transactions, integration of community hospitals, investigations, strategic initiatives, and fields such as precision medicine, technology, and cybersecurity. This role will also involve overseeing legal advice and counsel on data protection and cybersecurity matters across the UC system. The Managing Counsel will negotiate on behalf of The Regents, advise the C-Suite in UC Health and medical centers, and assist in the day-to-day operations and strategic planning of the practice group.

The ideal candidate for this position must be able to effectively manage legal resources, including oversight of outside counsel. They will work closely with the Deputy General Counsel to develop strategic plans and budgets for the practice group. This role requires strong leadership skills, the ability to provide sound legal advice on complex issues, and a deep understanding of health law, privacy, and data protection in the academic and healthcare sectors.
