About Dr. Sakakibara

Ken Sakakibara is a Director and Executive Senior Consultant at TRANSEARCH Japan - executing senior level searches for clients within the technology sector. He started his career at Canon Inc., and then held executive positions in a variety of R&D organisations over a period of 30 years, prior to joining TRANSEARCH. During his career with Canon, he achieved remarkable results in developing joint engineering with multinationals such as Siemens AG and Hitachi, Ltd. In particular, he played a leading role in acquiring the engineering department during the companies' acquisition of Océ N.V. in the Netherlands. After being stationed at Canon Information Systems in Costa Mesa, he was invited to be the Director of Sakakibara Research Laboratory, established in Canon Electronics Inc., where his team developed cyber security technology for the Canon Group and worldwide customers. In 2014, Ken Sakakibara joined TRANSEARCH - one of the top ten leading international networks in the Executive Search Industry worldwide - and is based in the Tokyo office as a Director and Executive Senior Consultant. Leveraging his extensive technical experience, he deeply understands details of both the scientific/engineering skills that TRANSEARCH clients are looking for in candidates and is extremely competent in determining the technical backgrounds that candidates have. This results in greater success for difficult/complex searches, which benefits Multinationals and Japan-based fast-growing companies. He is also active in academia where he was appointed as a Fellow of The Institute of Electronics, Information and Communication Engineers, Director of Japan Telework Society and Editor-in-Chief of the Society Journal. Since 2018, he has been a Visiting Fellow Lecturer of the Department of Policy Studies, Faculty of Economics, Toyo University. Ken Sakakibara holds a Bachelor degree in Industrial Engineering, Master degree in MOT, Management of Technology, and Ph.D. in Engineering; all these degrees were granted from Tokyo Institute of Technology. He is an inventor of 6 U.S. registered patents, author of numerous academic papers, some of which were published from IEEE, and was granted 4 honorary awards from Information Processing Society of Japan. He is interested in the history of science and technology and those contributions to the industry, so in his spare time he sometimes appears in different universities as teaching/research assistant of these subjects. Author of the book: "Patent Hoarding: Patent troll maneuver to the JPEG Standardization".
