About Mr. Harpole
John Harpole is a consultant within Spencer Stuart’s Leadership Advisory Services and he is a member of the firm’s Financial Services Practice. John has more than 20 years of private capital advisory and institutional investment experience, encompassing public equities, alternative- and real-assets.
Diverse institutional investment experience
John joined Spencer Stuart from an institutional investment consultancy. Earlier in his career, John advised alternative-asset fund sponsors as a senior project manager in J.P. Morgan Chase’s Private Fund Group and, later, as the founder and principal of a FINRA-registered advisory firm that originated and executed client mandates in the U.S. and abroad.
Prior to his advisory roles, John was a vice president with J.P. Morgan Investment Management, where he managed liquid and illiquid investments in a team-managed, multi-sector portfolio under an absolute-return mandate. John began his finance career as an equity securities analyst with the State of Wisconsin Investment Board.
A native Milwaukeean, John earned his bachelor’s degree from Dartmouth College and an M.B.A. from the Amos Tuck Graduate School of Business. A former Foreign Service officer in the U.S. Department of State, John served on assignment in Washington, D.C., and as Staff Aide to the American ambassador in Bogotá, Colombia.
John has an ongoing engagement and service as a trustee/board member with several educational, charitable, religious, and social service organizations. John is a Councilor of the Dartmouth College Alumni Council where he is a member of the Nominating Committee. He was formerly Chair of the Honorary Degrees Committee and a member of the Executive Committee.
