Meridia is working with the City of Moncton to find a Director, Planning and Development in Moncton, New Brunswick. The ideal candidate will lead a department focused on shaping the city's sustainable growth and future development. Reporting to the General Manager of Sustainable Growth and Development Services, the Director will provide strategic leadership for planning, heritage, development control, and building inspection functions. Responsibilities include overseeing a team, guiding policy development, managing planning and development activities, leading stakeholder engagement, and ensuring high-quality service delivery aligned with corporate priorities.
The Director will be responsible for guiding the development and implementation of municipal plans, secondary plans, and built form guidelines. They will oversee the processing and approval of development applications, enforce building codes and zoning by-laws, and lead city-wide planning initiatives. The successful candidate will represent the City in public forums, manage operating budgets, and drive a culture of service excellence and continuous improvement. Qualifications for this role include a post-secondary degree in planning or a related field, 10+ years of experience in urban planning, eligibility for membership with planning institutes, and strong communication and negotiation skills.
